Sandra Milosevic is a nurse working at the Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) Bijeljina. She is currently carrying out triage of patients at the PHHC and working shifts in the quarantine where people infected with the new coronavirus are placed. Though
that task is not easy and involves its risks, Sandra is proud to be able to help her fellow citizens. She is motivated by strong will, moral and human values that have not been lost during the pandemic.

Primary health care centres are on the front line combating the virus in local communities. Since the outbreak of the epidemic in our country, tasks have been reorganized in the PHCC Bijeljina and obligatory examinations introduced prior to entering the health facility. Rotations and medical supervision have been organized in the premises designated for accommodation of people infected with COVID-19.

It is definitely not an easy task.  Nurses have left their dearest ones behind in their homes in order to help those in most need during the pandemic. Aware of risk posed on their own lives, they are all in their working places nonetheless. “No one has envisaged the pandemic that would befall the whole planet and the burden it would place on the shoulders of health professionals. Nurses are at the core of the health system and have an immense workload in normal circumstances. During the pandemic, we have been working under additional pressure and stress, afraid of spreading the virus to our families. It is not easy, but we will persevere because we love our job and are devoted to our patients”.

She is proud to be a part of the health system and for her, as a nurse, the greatest reward is to help another human and save lives. “That notion has been leading me in everyday work and giving me the strength to continue fighting for our fellow citizens, families and myself in the current situation”, Sandra explains.

Sandra stressed the importance of collaboration between all health workers, but also with patients: “Even in complex and difficult circumstances, health professionals function as a team with their patients, on whose responsibility and honesty the course of the epidemic greatly depends”.

Sandra ends with the following message:  ”I am imploring the citizens and all those who are reading this to respect our work and stay at home, protect themselves and their family members, so that we can fight off the epidemic together and get back to normal life”.
