From 3rd to 5th December 2024, the Erasmus+ TCCWB project brought together healthcare professionals, academics, and experts in Brussels for its third workshop, focused on Transcultural Competence in Healthcare, organized by ODISEE University of applied sciences (Belgium).

This workshop, held under the theme of fostering inclusive and culturally sensitive healthcare practices, was an inspiring and productive event that marked another significant step in building capacity for transcultural competence across the Western Balkans.

The workshop commenced with a Steering Committee meeting, where project partners discussed key updates, including financial progress, dissemination strategies, and upcoming events. This set the stage for dynamic collaborations and effective project management.

On the second day, participants were captivated by a keynote presentation and interactive workshops led by Bleri Leshi, a renowned expert on cultural competence. Discussions revolved around the importance of understanding and addressing cultural diversity in healthcare to improve patient outcomes and reduce disparities.

The final day featured insightful presentations, including:
•  Hanze Hogeschool’s pilot program on cultural competence, showcasing innovative approaches to integrating these concepts into healthcare education.
•  The International Organization for Migration (IOM) shared its perspective on the challenges faced by the health workforce when providing care to people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

In addition to the formal program, participants had the opportunity to network and strengthen collaboration among various stakeholders involved in the project, such as the University of Zenica, the University of East Sarajevo, the "Džemal Bijedić" University of Mostar, ODISEE University of Applied Sciences in Brussels (Belgium), the "Luigj Gurakuqi" University of Shkodër, Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland), the Eqrem Çabej University of Gjirokastër (Albania), and the FAMI Foundation.

This workshop reaffirmed the importance of cultural competence in healthcare and laid a strong foundation for future workshops, including the fifth workshop organized by the FAMI Foundation (March 24–26, 2025, in Sarajevo), which will focus on the development of educational materials.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, speakers, and organizers for their contributions to the success of this event. Together, we are shaping a future where healthcare professionals are equipped to provide inclusive and culturally sensitive care for all.

Stay tuned for updates on the TCCWB project and future events!
