The first meeting of the working group for the revision of nursing studies curriculum of the Faculty of Health Studies of Sarajevo University was held on April 10th 2017 in Sarajevo.

The task of the group (WG) is to align the nursing curriculum to the EU directives. That implies, inter alia, clearly defined course objectives, learning outcomes and core competences gained at the study program, adequate number and distribution of theory and practical training hours, proper student work load in the form of credits, as well as the introduction of new and modification of some of the existing subjects.

The WG is consisted of four representatives of the Faculty of Health Studies Sarajevo: the dean, study program director and two graduate nurses with the title of assistant professors at nursing study program.

The expertise of prof. dr Brigita Skela-Savic, Angele Boškin Faculty of Health Care dean from Slovenia and director of the Republic of Slovenia Institute of Research of Health System and Health Care, is at the disposal of the WG. During the meeting, she presented her analysis of the existing curriculum and gave suggestions how to revise it in order to align to the EU directives concerning the recognition of the professional qualifications (Directive 2005/36/EC and Directive 2013/55/EC), as well as to the EFN Guideline for the Implementation of Article 31 of the Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications Directive 2005/36/EC, amended by Directive 2013/55/EC, adopted at the adopted by the General Assembly of the EFN in April 2015 in Brussels.

The WG discussed extensively about the existing legal obstacles and found certain solutions to align the curriculum to the EU directives.

Before the next meeting scheduled for June 23rd, the WG is tasked to explore the suggested revisions to the curriculum, identify optional subjects, check and adjust student workload at each study year, suggest chair-holders for nursing care, list legal obstacles to achieving WG objectives and prepare the final curriculum proposal with defined learning objectives based on EFN competencies and the competencies specified in the Directive 2013/55/EU, for which the EU expert will give her opinion again.

Providing support to the process of the curriculum revision is a part of the activities implemented by ProSes within its third component in cooperation with the public faculties with nursing studies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a part of this support, ProSes donated medical equipment for the clinical skills laboratory to the Faculty of Health Studies Sarajevo last year.
