As part of continuous activities to improve community nursing practice, an intensive training on palliative care was held for 23 nurses from primary health care centers Kozarska Dubica, Gradiska, Kostajnica, Novi Grad, Stanari, Laktasi and Ostra Luka.
This training represents an important step in strengthening the competencies of healthcare professionals who work with patients on daily basis and need long-term, comprehensive and carefully coordinated support. The program covered key segments of palliative care, including:
• Conditions and needs assessment of patients and caregivers,
• Symptom management and care planning,
• Holistic, multidisciplinary and interinstitutional approach,
• Communication with patients and families,
• Recognition of professional challenges and prevention of burnout syndrome.
The training was led by prominent experts in the field of palliative care — Silvija Gambiroza, Healthcare Manager and Dr. Zivko Vranjes, Oncology Specialist from the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, who shared their experiences from many years of practice and practical tools for everyday field work.
Through these trainings, Fami Foundation continues to strengthen the professional skills of nurses with a special emphasis on sustainable, high-quality and accessible community nursing. Palliative care plays a key role in providing dignified and sensitive support to patients and their families. Continuous investment in the professional development of health professionals is one of the fundamentals for improving primary health care in BiH.
