A four-day training of trainers "Leadership in Nursing" implemented within "Strengthening Nursing in Bosnia and Herzegovina" project supported by the Federal Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska and FAMI Foundation, was held in Neum. Twenty two nurses from various healthcare institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the training.

As planned, participants worked on developing leadership competencies, improving organizational skills and strengthening professional identity in nursing. Using practical examples, group work and guided discussions, the challenges of everyday work in teams, ways of responsibility distribution, communication with colleagues and patients and opportunities for improving the quality of healthcare were analyzed.  Training added value was the opportunity to exchange experiences, providing possibility to learn from practice and jointly look for solutions.

On the third day, a specific focus was on organizational models of work and the role of nurses as bearers of positive changes in healthcare environments. Using examples from their own institutions, the participants identified concrete situations in which small adjustments in organization and communication can turn into significant improvements in the team work and provision of health care.

Completion of training implies acquired knowledge being used in practice. Participants returned to their institutions with clearly defined ideas and goals to develop and share with colleagues, thus continuing to strengthen the role of nursing in the healthcare system. The atmosphere of mutual support and professional respect during the training in Neum remaines the foundation for the further development of leadership in nursing profession.
