"Development of nurses’ management skills" training for head nurses at all health care levels in Republika Srpska was held in Borje, near Teslic, from August 31 to September 3, 2023. The training organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska and the Fami Foundation was attended by the representatives of the hospitals Gradiska, Prijedor, East Sarajevo, Zvornik, the University Hospital in Foca, the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, the Kostic Clinic, the primary healthcare centers Prijedor and Gradiska, as well as the Nurses Union. The goal of this training was to strengthen the management skills of the head nurses that they can apply in their working place and in services provision to the patients.
During four-day training, essential topics such as the impact of modern trends in healthcare on nursing management, challenges and motivation in nursing management, human resource management, nurse communication in management, planning in nursing, crisis communication in healthcare, and the impact of contemporary trends in healthcare on nursing management were discussed.
As part of the Strengthening Nursing in Bosnia and Herzegovina project’s Component C that covers the development of management and leadership skills of nurses, the series of trainings focusing on strengthening nurses’ management skills at all health care levels are planned. Zlatko Maksimovic, MD, Assistant Director General for medical affairs at the University of Republika Srpska, prof. Ph.D. Zvezdana Rajkovaca, Aassistant General Director for Nursing at the University Hospital of Republika Srpska, Sladjana Vranjes, The Strengthening Nursing in BiH Project Manager Eldin Fisekovic and project components A and C managers, Ena Bucan and Adela Berisa – Fazlagic, respectively, shared their experiences and recommendations.
